Island Falls Generating Station is located on the Abitibi River in Tolmie and Menapia Townships, approximately 50 km north of the Town of Smooth Rock Falls. The station has four DEW vertical Francis turbines with GE Canada air-cooled generators. The station was originally constructed in 1925. In 1996, the station was modernized and all units converted to 60 Hz operation. The generation capacity of the facility is 38.0 MW.
