Calgary, Alberta (December 2, 2014): Today in Clean Energy Canada’s Tracking the Energy Revolution report, BluEarth Renewables Inc.’s (BluEarth) President & CEO Kent Brown was named Canadian Innovator of the Year. Brown was selected for his leadership in the addition of over $400 million of renewable energy projects to BluEarth’s portfolio in the past year, which will result in close to $650 million of operating assets by 2015. The company’s distinctive approach to Aboriginal relations, which aims to go beyond consultation seeking equity partnerships with First Nations, was also recognized.
“It’s a great honour to be recognized by Clean Energy Canada as an innovator in our sector,” said Brown. “At BluEarth I lead an incredible team of people who are passionate about renewable energy, and about finding creative ways to overcome challenges in bringing new renewable projects on line. This past year we’ve been extremely busy with seven projects under construction, and there’s more to come. This award is a most welcome recognition of the hard work of our entire team and the positive difference we are making.”
“We’re pleased to recognize Kent Brown and his team at BluEarth Renewables for their work tapping into clean, renewable energy across the country,” said Clean Energy Canada director Merran Smith. “As we surveyed the field, we were struck by how creatively and effectively this independent company—headquartered in the heart of Canada’s oil patch—finances project and builds them responsibly, with the deep involvement of communities and aboriginal governments.”
Clean Energy Canada is a national organization working to accelerate Canada’s transition to a clean and renewable energy system, building awareness of and support for solutions that address climate disruption and foster an energy efficient, environmentally responsible, and prosperous economy.
