On May 13, 2014, the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) approved BluEarth’s application to extend the completion date of the Hand Hills Wind Project to December 31, 2018. BluEarth requested the extension because there is a delay in the regulatory process to develop the infrastructure required to interconnect the facility to the Alberta Integrated Electrical System (AIES). The decision can be viewed here.
ATCO Electric, the Transmission Facility Owner in the area, has an application before the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to construct the transmission infrastructure to connect the Hand Hills Wind Project to the AIES. However, their application is currently being held in abeyance by the AUC pending the outcome of a separate proceeding dealing with overall transmission constraints and rights within the Province of Alberta. BluEarth asked for an extension to our construction time frame for the Hand Hills project because of the uncertainty about the duration of the abeyance.
